Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

The abdomen is one of the most common areas in need of aesthetic attention.  Even with proper dieting and exercise, the abdomen may become unattractive as a result of a genetic predisposition to collect fat in that area, previous pregnancy, or fluctuations in weight.  An abdominoplasty is designed to improve the abdominal contours by removing excess fat, loose hanging skin, and stretch marks, and by tightening the muscles that have become stretched out and separated, creating a flatter, more defined midsection.

The incision is oriented along the lower abdomen-upper pelvic area, so as to be hidden within the confines of a bathing suit or underwear, and a separate incision around the belly button is usually needed as well.  At Renaissance Plastic Surgery we feel that an overnight hospitalization for observation is important for safety, and this included in the cost of the procedure.  An abdominoplasty may be performed in conjunction with liposuction for additional contouring, or a flankplasty to improve the contouring of the hips or “love handles”.  Drains are placed for two weeks and patients wear an abdominal binder for six weeks.  Most patients take two to four weeks off from work and should avoid lifting more than 10 pounds for the first two weeks and more than 20 pounds for up to six weeks.
